As a fifth-generation Berkeley native, respected community leader, and member of Brady’s Northern California Regional Leadership Council, City Councilmember Ben Bartlett is committed to protecting his constituents from gun violence.
Most recently, he helped launch Berkeley’s first-ever Gun Violence Intervention and Prevention Program. The program will implement tactics to help alleviate gun violence in the city’s most impacted neighborhoods, including violence interrupters to conduct street outreach and connect residents to social services. Similar initiatives launched in neighboring California cities helped reduce gun violence by up to 50%.
Councilmember Barlett has also spoken out about the impact of gun violence and called for community-centered solutions.
Councilmember Bartlett said:
While the Berkeley police continue to investigate the deadly shooting, my heart is heavy following the tragic and senseless shooting in Berkeley. My deepest condolences go out to the families affected by this heartbreaking incident. While gun crimes have decreased by 22% in our city, three homicides are still three too many. We must continue to address the root causes of violence and take meaningful action to ensure the safety of our neighborhoods. Let’s stand united in our efforts to create a safer community for all!
The Brady Campaign is proud to endorse Councilmember Bartlett in his campaign to represent Berkeley’s third district.
