Rep. Brad Schneider is a champion for gun violence prevention initiatives.
When a gunman opened fire on a 4th of July parade in 2022, Rep. Schneider renewed his commitment to common-sense regulations that would prevent mass casualty events from happening again. Along with Rep. Espailliat (D-NY-13), Rep. Schneider introduced the Ghost Guns are Guns bill which would extend background checks to all gun assembly kits purchased online. He also cosponsored the Gun Trafficking Prevention Act, which would close existing loopholes around straw purchase firearms. This bill would crack down on gun trafficking by making it a federal crime to purchase a firearm on someone's behalf.
Gun violence is personal to Representative Schneider. He said:
I am named after my great-uncle Sam, who was murdered by a gunman before my birth…That’s why my very first speech from the floor of the United States Congress was about standing up to the NRA and calling for sensible gun safety legislation. That speech and my votes in Congress led to the NRA giving me an “F” grade.
