Born in Chesapeake, VA, Delegate Cliff Hayes was especially devastated by the mass shooting at a Chesapeake Walmart that left six people dead and four others injured.
With community safety as one of his top priorities, Delegate Hayes has a strong record of championing gun violence prevention legislation. His leadership reflects a deep commitment to protecting the communities he calls home and preventing future tragedies.
While serving as a Virginia Delegate, Hayes has:
- Supported legislation to require universal Brady Background Checks
- Improved and invested in implementation of extreme risk laws, which temporarily remove firearms from a person in crisis
- Authored legislation to create a five day waiting period to purchase a firearm
