Speaker Craig Coughlin has been, and continues to be, a champion of gun violence prevention in New Jersey.
In 2023, New Jersey had the second-lowest gun deaths in the country. Now, we need leaders like Speaker Coughlin to continue this life-saving legacy.
In the New Jersey General Assembly, Speaker Coughlin has:
- Voted to preserve funding for Rutgers University’s Gun Violence Research Center, which has conducted and supported dozens of studies that help gun violence prevention advocates and policymakers better understand the contours of this public health crisis and its solutions
- Advocated to bolster the state’s concealed carry permitting system, banning firearms from sensitive public places, like preschools, playgrounds, parks, and hospitals
- Supported legislation to implement firearm microstamping, a revolutionary technology that marks bullets to aid law enforcement in tracing guns recovered from crimes and solving homicide cases
