Rep. Don Beyer has been a champion of gun violence prevention.
Stopping the gun violence epidemic has been a major focus of Rep. Beyer’s work in Congress. He was a lead cosponsor of the bipartisan Extreme Risk Protection Order Act, legislation that would encourage states to temporarily remove access to firearms from people in crisis with a petition from law enforcement or family members.
Rep. Beyer said:
Gun violence claims over 30,000 lives per year, including nearly 20,000 firearm-related suicides. Congress has done too little to curb gun violence, despite overwhelming support for such measures by Americans from all political backgrounds. Preventing gun violence is a major priority for me in Congress.
Rep. Beyer also voted for the Bipartisan Background Checks Act, legislation to close the Charleston loophole, and the Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act. He is also a long-time co-sponsor of the Assault Weapons Ban, and of measures to ban large- capacity magazines and bump-stocks.
