Protecting Massachusetts communities from gun violence is one of Sen. Ed Markey’s top priorities.
Sen. Markey is fighting for laws that save lives, protect kids, and keep communities safe by treating gun violence like the public-health emergency it is. He always puts people’s lives ahead of the gun industry’s profits.
Sen. Markey said:
Every day, more than 125 people in the United States die from gun violence. Our communities barely have a moment to mourn before gun violence in our schools and on our streets steals the lives of more Americans and rips families apart. We can’t keep living like this, and Americans can’t keep dying like this.
Sen. Markey is fighting in the Senate to ban assault weapons and large-capacity magazines, strengthen background checks and safe storage requirements, ban untraceable ghost guns, and close gun sale loopholes. In 2025 alone, Sen. Markey was the lead sponsor for the Gun Violence Prevention Research Act of 2025, the 3D Printed Gun Safety Act of 2025, the Keeping Gun Dealers Honest Act of 2025, and more. He was also the original co-sponsor for the Assault Weapons Ban of 2025 and the Keep Americans Safe Act.
