Assemblywoman Ellen Park has never shied away from the tough battles, especially on gun violence prevention.
As the chair of the Assembly Judiciary Committee, she helped usher through a package of 10 gun violence prevention bills, three of which she was the prime sponsor of. These bills, among other things, addressed loopholes concerning domestic violence, pre-trial release of offenders, and prohibited persons from attempting to purchase guns.
As Assemblywoman, Ellen Park:
- Was the prime sponsor of the Firearm and Ammunition Procurement Act, which establishes State firearm procurement practices for firearms, ammunition, and firearm accessories — helping ensure taxpayer dollars are not spent at gun dealers who may have been cited for breaking the law
- Co-sponsored microstamping legislation, a revolutionary technology that marks bullets to aid law enforcement in tracing guns recovered from crimes and solve homicide cases
- Advocated to bolster the state’s concealed carry permitting system, banning firearms from sensitive public places, like preschools, playgrounds, parks, and hospitals

New Jersey is known for having among the strongest, most comprehensive common-sense gun laws in the nation because our Legislature has committed itself to ensuring the safety and well-being of every New Jerseyan, both inside and outside their homes. As advancements in technology make firearms more accessible and more dangerous, it is imperative that we reassess and update our laws to reflect these changes. This ensures that we honor the principles of the Second Amendment while prioritizing the safety and well-being of our communities.
