Rep. George Whitesides understands that we need immediate solutions to the epidemic of gun violence.
In 2019, he saw the impact gun violence had on his community after the Saugus High School shooting in Santa Clarita, CA. The shooter used a homemade ghost gun to kill two students and injure five others. As a father, Rep. Whitesides became dedicated to helping make sure that children have the ability to go to school without the fear of gun violence.
In response to the shooting at Saugus High School, Rep Whitesides said:
As a father of two young children, I am saddened and horrified by today’s tragedy in Nashville, Tennessee. Schools, churches, our offices should be safe, and parents should never have to worry that when they drop their kids off at school that they may not come home. This senseless cycle needs to end - and that means meaningful gun safety reform. We need to act.
California has become a leader in the gun violence prevention movement. Rep. Whitesides is working to uphold this legacy, supporting expanding Brady Background Checks, disarming domestic abusers, and supporting funding for community violence intervention programs.
