Greg Jackson, former deputy director of the White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention (WHOGVP), has been a long time, ardent champion of gun violence prevention.
As a survivor of gun violence, and having lost loved ones to gun violence, he knows personally the impact of this epidemic on families and communities. He is ready to fight this crisis on all levels. Jackson is especially passionate about preventing gun violence through addressing systemic issues in Washington, D.C. that are root causes of violent crime.
Jackson said:
It’s just really frustrating to see a city struggling with a real crisis that’s causing so much harm, and then also knowing that we have so many solutions that are working across the country. And so I want to bring those ideas, those resources, and that leadership here locally.
Before running for city council, Jackson was the executive director of the nonprofit Community Justice and served in the Biden Administration. Under his leadership at the WHOGVP, the country saw a consistent reduction in violent crime, with homicides dropping by over 30%. He also implemented 54 executive actions and helped implement the historic Bipartisan Safer Communities Act. After leaving the White House, Jackson became the president of The Rocket Foundation, named in honor of the late rapper Takeoff, where he leads investments in community based violence prevention programs across the country. Now, he wants to fight for solutions to gun violence as part of Washington, D.C.’s City Council.
The Brady Campaign is proud to endorse Greg Jackson in his campaign for D.C.’s City Council.
