As a current member of the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors and former U.S. Secretary of Labor, Solis has spent her career fighting for working families and community safety across California.
As chair pro tem of the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, Solis co-authored a motion to designate June as Gun Violence Awareness Month. She has led efforts to distribute over 28,000 free gun locks across the county, emphasizing the importance of secure firearm storage and has continually advanced stronger gun safety policies and greater access to life-saving resources for residents.
Solis said:
Gun violence is not just a public safety concern; it is a public health crisis that demands bold, urgent, and sustained action (...) We must keep pushing for common sense legislation, community investment, and healing, especially for our youth and communities of color who bear the heaviest burden of this violence.
