Sen. John Hickenlooper has seen how gun violence has devastated Colorado communities and has worked tirelessly to end this epidemic.
After the 2012 mass shooting in Aurora, CO, as governor, Hickenlooper helped enact universal background checks and a ban on high-capacity magazines in the state. In the U.S. Senate, he co-sponsored legislation to expand background checks and close deadly gun sale loopholes.
Sen. Hickenlooper said:
The gun violence epidemic is a uniquely American problem. But it’s within our reach to end it.
Moving forward, Sen. Hickenlooper plans to continue to fight for community violence intervention funding and legislation to implement extreme risk laws federally. With firearms still the leading cause of death for young people in Colorado, these bills are essential to ensure that future generations will one day live without the fear of gun violence.
