Josh Becker

Josh Becker, a California state senator, has proven he can help protect California communities from senseless gun violence.

During his time in the California State Senate, Sen. Becker helped close the "gun show loophole" and has advocated for extreme risk laws, which are sensible tools that help temporarily remove firearms from a person who may pose a risk to themselves or those around them. His efforts have helped California be a leader in the movement to end gun violence. But Sen. Becker understands we need more action on this epidemic, particularly on the federal level.

Following the devastating Half Moon Bay shooting in California, Sen. Becker said:

We are a global outlier and because guns can so easily be brought in from out of state, little will change until Congress is willing to stand up to the gun lobby and say enough is enough. When I say Congress, I am not talking about our local delegation, which has been supportive of sensible gun legislation for years, led by former Congresswoman Jackie Speier who herself was shot five times on a Guyana airstrip in 1978. No, I’m talking specifically about the Republicans in Congress, the vast majority of whom have no problem telling a woman what she can and can’t do with her body when it comes to pregnancy and birth control, but won’t support truly meaningful restrictions on who can and can’t own a gun or on assault weapons.

We know Sen. Becker will continue to advocate for sensible solutions — in California and federally — to save lives. The Brady Campaign is proud to endorse him for reelection to represent the 13th California Senate District.
