Rep. Judy Chu has long been a champion of gun violence prevention, fighting to protect California communities.
After a hate-filled attack in Monterey Park, CA, in her district, that killed 11 people and injured nine others, she has become even more committed to ensuring no one else ever has to face this devastation again.
Rep. Chu said:
No community should experience what Monterey Park has over this past year. That’s why I’ve long fought to ban high-capacity magazines, implement universal background checks, and restore the assault weapons ban. Additionally, I have introduced the Language Access to Gun Violence Prevention Strategies Act, to build on the President’s action to further strengthen ‘red flag’ laws and other gun violence prevention strategies by ensuring resources are disseminated in a culturally appropriate manner and made available in-language for immigrant and Asian American and Pacific Islander communities.
Rep. Chu has also cosponsored other life-saving bills like the Equal Access to Justice for Victims of Gun Violence Act of 2023 (H.R.4184), which would repeal the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act, an unparalleled protection that has been interpreted to shield the gun industry from civil liability in the courts.
