Laura Gillen has long fought for New York communities.
As a lawyer, she represented victims of domestic violence, pro bono, and as the first Democrat in over 100 years to serve as Town Supervisor in Nassau County, she passed critical legislation relating to sexual harassment, veterans benefits, and ethics reform. Now, Gillen plans to bring the same fierce dedication to the halls of power and help secure a gun violence prevention majority in the U.S. House of Representatives.
Laura Gillen said:
Gun safety is about public safety and protecting our families and communities from senseless gun violence. I’m proud to have @Brady_PAC’s endorsement and with their support we will flip this seat and advance gun safety policies in Washington.
Gillen pledges to support legislation to ensure safe firearm storage, expand Brady Background Checks and close loopholes that allow domestic abusers easy access to firearms. She also supports extreme risk protection orders, which are proven public safety measures that can temporarily remove firearms from people who pose a risk to themselves or others. In contrast, the incumbent, Rep. Anthony D'Esposito, who is one of the gun lobby's top allies in Congress, supports legislation allowing individuals to carry concealed firearms into all states, regardless of state or local laws, and does not support a ban on assault weapons.
The choice couldn't be more clear: We need gun violence prevention champions like Gillen in Congress now. The Brady Campaign is proud to endorse Laura Gillen to represent New York’s 4th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives.
