Majority Leader Lou Greenwald has long been a champion of gun violence prevention in New Jersey.
Following the shooting in Sandy Hook, Connecticut, he vowed to fight to protect New Jersey communities from gun violence. And that work has paid off. New Jersey holds the second-lowest rate of gun deaths in the country. But Majority Leader Greenwald knows that they now have to hold the line and protect the work they’ve done.
During his time in the New Jersey General Assembly, Assemblyman Greenwald:
- Was a prime sponsor of A4974, which establishes criminal penalties for the sale and possession of machine gun conversion devices, addressing the growing threat of these illegal devices that turn semi-automatic weapons into fully automatic firearms
- Fought to pass legislation to implement firearm microstamping, a revolutionary technology that marks bullets to aid law enforcement in tracing guns recovered from crimes and solving homicide cases
- Voted to preserve funding for Rutgers University’s Gun Violence Research Center, which has conducted and supported dozens of studies that help gun violence prevention advocates and policymakers better understand the contours of this public health crisis and its solutions
