California Assemblymember Marc Berman understands the devastating impact of gun violence all too well.
On January 23, 2023, he saw the Half Moon Bay, CA, shooting unfold in the district he represents, and that day, seven people were killed and one other was injured. Assemblymember Berman is determined to protect his community from tragedies like these from happening again.
Assemblymember Berman said:
In the aftermath, the message from my constituents was clear: do more to combat gun violence. We have endured our collective grief and frustration long enough.
Assemblymember Berman has long been committed to gun violence prevention. In 2019, he authored a bill that helped develop and implement firearm violence prevention education and training programs for healthcare providers. He has also been a fierce advocate of safe firearm storage, writing laws that ensure that anyone who buys a gun knows the risks of gun ownership and how to properly store a gun in their home — an evidence-based approach that will reduce firearm suicide, unintentional shootings, and school shootings. Among many other things, Assemblymember Berman also teamed up with California Attorney General Rob Bonta to expand the California Department of Justice’s authority to enforce California’s strong gun safety laws.
The Brady Campaign is proud to endorse Assemblymember Berman in his campaign to represent the 23rd California Assembly District.
