Sen. Mark Warner has, time and time again, taken action to address the gun violence epidemic in Virginia and across the country.
He worked with Sen. Tim Kaine to introduce the “Virginia Plan to Reduce Gun Violence Act” to enact a series of gun violence prevention measures, like establishing new background check requirements and requiring lost and stolen firearms to be reported, and he co-sponsored the Background Check Expansion Act. In 2025, he also co-sponsored legislation to ban assault weapons and large-capacity magazines.

Gun violence continues to rock communities across the country over and over without meaningful intervention from lawmakers. It’s time that we step up and once again put in place this common-sense safeguard to better protect Virginians from these weapons of war.
As a gun owner, Sen. Warner understands the responsibility of owning firearms and wants to implement solutions that will prevent gun violence before it happens. With Virginia losing over 1,200 people every year to gun violence, and gun violence being the leading cause of death for young people, these solutions are absolutely essential to protect Virginia communities.
