Councilmember Marni von Wilpert has long been a champion of gun violence prevention in San Diego.
She has worked hand in hand with Brady’s Combating Crime Guns program to ensure taxpayer dollars are not spent at gun dealers who break the law and contribute to our nation’s gun violence crisis. She joined Brady’s “Building a Future Without Gun Violence” conference to explain the legislation and how other localities can use supply-side solutions to prevent gun violence.
As chair of the San Diego City Council's Public Safety Committee, she’s led the charge to keep communities safe. These efforts included introducing legislation that banned deadly ghost guns, authoring legislation that ensures state officials never use tax dollars to purchase firearms from gun dealers who break the law, helping to curb the proliferation of crime guns, and investing in the implementation of extreme risk laws, which temporarily remove firearms from a person in crisis.
Since then, she has continued to work to protect San Diego communities, and now wants to bring that experience to Congress.

Gun violence is now the leading cause of death for young people in America. I’ve already authored California’s first ban on ghost guns, and I’ll keep fighting for strong gun safety laws in Congress to keep our families and communities safe.
