Sen. Martin Heinrich knows that common-sense gun reform can co-exist with the Second Amendment.
He wrote the Gas-Operated Semi-Automatic Firearms Exclusion (GOSAFE) Act (S. 3369), which would regulate the sale, transfer, and manufacture of semiautomatic weapons based on the legality of their internal mechanisms. This limits the amount of ammunition that can be fired at one time, potentially limiting the extent of a tragedy.
Sen. Heinrich said:
We can no longer accept these horrific shootings—or the estimated 90+ Americans killed each day by gun violence—as the status quo.
In the 118th Congress, Sen. Heinrich also cosponsored legislation aimed at expanding Brady Background Checks, regulating ghost guns, and ensuring the safe storage of firearms.
