Virginia Delegate Michelle Maldonado is from a family of educators, including her husband, giving her a personal understanding of the fear and trauma that school shootings bring to classrooms and communities.
Her strong connections in education fuel her commitment to advancing gun violence prevention policies that keep students and teachers safe.
While serving as a Virginia Delegate, she:
- Supported legislation to require school boards to notify parents about the importance of securely storing firearms in the home
- Helped create the Virginia Center for Firearm Violence Intervention and Prevention within the Department of Criminal Justice Services
- Authored legislation to prevent home-based firearm dealers near schools
