Former Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser has been an ardent supporter of gun violence prevention.
While serving as attorney general, Weiser fought to expand Colorado’s extreme risk laws, require secure storage for firearms, and close the “boyfriend loophole” in gun sales. While in office, he worked with Brady’s youth-led arm, Team ENOUGH, and hosted a town hall with youth activists on how to keep students safe in school. His office also partnered with researchers to help close gaps in gun violence prevention laws.
Weiser said:
All Coloradans should feel safe in their homes, communities, schools, and places of worship. Public safety is about building trust in law enforcement, preventing crimes, following data-driven policies and crime science, and making smart investments that keep people safe and strengthen communities.
As governor, Weiser will follow a three-pronged approach to preventing gun violence. This will include redesigning Colorado’s law enforcement training program, passing common-sense laws that stop gun violence before it happens, and partnering with community violence intervention organizations.
The Brady Campaign is proud to endorse Weiser to serve as Colorado’s governor.
