Rep. Pramila Jayapal has been a tireless advocate to prevent gun violence as a member of the House Judiciary Committee.
Last session Rep. Jayapal led the charge on legislation such to expand and strengthen Brady Background Checks, keep guns out of the hands of people who commit violent hate crimes, and end the sale of large-capacity magazines.
Rep. Jayapal has ensured that the safety of all Americans is placed above partisanship, helping bring forward common-sense gun safety policies that will save lives. This session in the 118th Congress, she cosponsored the Bipartisan Background Checks Act of 2023 (H.R. 715), the Assault Weapons Ban of 2023 (H.R. 698), and Ethan’s Law (H.R. 660) which would mandate safe firearm storage across the nation. Rep. Pramila Japayal has also advocated for legislation to keep firearms out of the hands of those who are a threat to themselves or others, increased oversight over the gun industry, and for support for survivors of domestic violence.
