As former mayor of Long Beach and now a member of the House Gun Violence Prevention Task Force, Rep. Robert Garcia has spent years working to end gun violence at every level of government.

Rep. Garcia has been a fierce advocate for universal background checks, banning assault weapons and large-capacity magazines, raising the national age to purchase a firearm to 21, and implementing national extreme risk (red flag) laws. He introduced the AMMO Act with Senator Elizabeth Warren, which would require background checks for ammunition purchases, prohibit bulk ammunition sales, and require ammunition sellers to obtain the same federal license as firearms dealers.

Rep. Garcia said:

We need to do everything in our power to prevent mass shootings and end our nation’s gun violence epidemic.

As mayor of Long Beach, Rep. Garcia worked with local law enforcement and community groups on violence prevention programs like the Neighborhood Walks initiative, and he continues to push for federal support for mental health and violence diversion programs in schools and communities.

The Brady Campaign is proud to endorse Rep. Garcia for reelection to represent California’s 42nd Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives.
