Since his election to Congress in 2013, Rep. Scott Peters has been a consistent advocate for gun safety.
Rep. Peters is a member of the Congressional Gun Violence Prevention Task Force and a champion of Brady’s ASK campaign, promoting safer gun storage practices.
In the aftermath of the deadly Pulse Nightclub shooting, Rep. Peters livestreamed the 2016 House Democratic sit-in for gun reform after Republican leadership cut official cameras. Between 2015 and 2016, he spoke on the House floor more than 20 times to read the names of gun violence victims and fought for expanded Brady Background Checks. He has also supported legislation to implement a national extreme risk law, to raise the age for possession of semi-automatic weapons, and to reduce gun trafficking.

Moments of silence do nothing to honor these victims unless they are followed by moments of action. For as long as it takes, I will remind the Speaker of the human cost of his inaction.
