Since his election to Congress in 2013, Rep. Scott Peters has been a consistent advocate for gun safety reform.
Rep. Peters is a member of the Congressional Gun Violence Prevention Task Force and a champion of Asking Saves Lives, promoting safer gun storage practices.
Rep. Peters livestreamed the 2016 House Democratic sit-in on gun safety legislation after Republican leadership cut official cameras, and between 2015 and 2016 took to the House floor more than 20 times to read the names of gun violence victims and press for a vote on background checks. In 2022, he voted to pass the Protecting Our Kids Act and the Federal Extreme Risk Protection Order Act, which raised the purchasing age for semi-automatic weapons, cracked down on gun trafficking and straw purchases, and outlawed ghost guns.
