Like far too many others in America, Tennessee State Rep. Shaundelle Brooks understands the devastating toll of gun violence.
In 2018, State Rep. Brooks' son, Akilah DaSilva, was killed in the Antioch Waffle House mass shooting. In the aftermath, Akilah's family learned that the AR-15 used to kill him and three others had been unlawfully given to the shooter. From that day on, State Rep. Brooks has pledged to “fight like a mom” to ensure that no one else has to suffer the same loss and grief that she and her family has.
State Rep. Brooks said:
I don’t want any other moms to go through this. To lose your child is devastating, but to lose them this way is worse.
State Rep. Brooks has been a fierce advocate for gun violence prevention, and she brought that conviction into her first term in office. She supports universal background checks, safe storage requirements, a ban on assault weapons, and extreme risk laws.
The Brady Campaign is proud to endorse State Rep. Brooks to represent District 60 the Tennessee House of Representatives.
