Rep. Veronica Escobar’s home state is all too familiar with the tragedy of gun violence.
Just a few months after she was elected, a gunman killed 23 people and injured 23 others at a Walmart in Rep. Escobar’s district. In the wake of this shooting, she promised to fight to end the gun violence epidemic and combat the violent hate that drove this attack.
Rep. Escobar said:
Hate and bigotry, coupled with easy access to weapons of war, make for a terrifying and deadly combination. Too many communities — including my own — know the consequences all too well.
Rep. Escobar’s top priorities have consistently been to expand Brady Background Checks and ban assault weapons and large-capacity magazines. In the 119th Congress, she supported the Assault Weapons Ban of 2025, the Raise the Age Act of 2025, the Office of Gun Violence Prevention Act of 2025, and more.
