As the youngest woman ever elected to the Phoenix City Council, Yassamin Ansari knows how to fight.
And she is ready to fight to protect Arizona communities in the U.S. House of Representatives. If elected, Ansari will advocate for a comprehensive approach to ending the gun violence epidemic that includes an assault weapons ban, increasing the legal age of purchase to 21, strengthening background checks, and closing gun sale loopholes.
Ansari said:
This country must confront the fact that in the developed world, our devastating levels of gun violence are a uniquely American epidemic. Congress has the power to make common sense policy decisions that could quite literally save the lives of children, and thus far they have blatantly neglected that responsibility and chosen to support the gun lobby.
Ansari will fight to protect communities particularly vulnerable to gun violence, like members of the LGBTQ+ community. She is also passionate about fighting to protect our democracy, a critical component to passing laws that will end the gun violence epidemic. Ansari is focused on ending the Jim Crow-era filibuster which has been used for decades to block common-sense gun safety legislation the majority of Americans support.
The Brady Campaign is proud to endorse Yassamin Ansari to represent Arizona’s 3rd Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives.
