Brady Endorses Rep. Andy Kim’s Bid For Re-Election: A Champion for New Jersey and for Gun Violence Prevention

Washington, D.C., December 9, 2019 - Today, Brady endorsed Rep. Andy Kim (NJ-03) in his campaign for re-election in 2020.

Brady President Kris Brown stated:

“Andy Kim is a much needed independent voice in Washington, clearly responding to the interests of his constituents and the country. It’s why he has been a strong advocate for commonsense gun violence legislation. As one of his first official acts in Congress, Rep. Kim voted for H.R.8 and H.R.1112, which passed the U.S. House of Representatives in February and would expand and enhance background checks for all firearm purchases. He has voted for and cosponsored several other bipartisan bills designed to protect our communities from gun violence. Rep. Kim has championed these issues because he knows that they matter to his constituents. Gun violence is a threat in every community, including New Jersey’s third congressional district and, as a father and as a representative of his state and constituents, he knows we can’t accept the status quo. It’s why Brady is proud to endorse Rep. Kim for re-election next year.”

In his time in office, Rep. Kim has already proven his commitment to addressing the gun violence epidemic in the United States and in New Jersey. Rep. Kim understands the threat of gun violence, as a career public servant who has served under both Democrats and Republicans in roles at the Pentagon, State Department, the White House National Security Council, and in Afghanistan.

Perhaps just as important, as a father, Rep. Kim understands the need to create a world in which our children, and their children, are free from the threat of gun violence.

Rep. Kim shared:

"I was in high school during the Columbine shootings and have seen a generation raised in an era of school shootings. I want to do everything I can do to make sure that my two baby boys don't have to grow up afraid of going to school because Congress hasn't acted on commonsense gun safety laws. I'm proud to be endorsed by Brady and their members throughout Burlington and Ocean Counties, because they've been a leader in fighting for safer streets and schools. I look forward to continuing my work alongside them in this Congress and in the future as we seek to make a better, more secure country for the next generation."

Given the urgent need for federal action to reform our nation’s gun laws and reduce gun violence, Brady will continue to issue endorsements for the U.S. House of Representatives, U.S. Senate, and state and local offices ahead of the 2020 elections.
