Washington, D.C., January 23, 2020 - Today, Brady endorsed Gina Ortiz Jones to represent Texas’ 23rd District in the United States House of Representatives.
Brady President Kris Brown stated:
“Gina Ortiz Jones is a dedicated public servant and a proven leader. As an Iraq War veteran, Jones has personally seen and understands the responsibility required to safely own and operate a firearm. This perspective provides her an informed view of our nation’s gun violence epidemic. Jones understands that we need solutions to tackle this complex issue, ranging from expanding background checks to ensuring that domestic abusers cannot purchase or possess weapons. Jones’ voice and her experience are necessary in Congress. It’s why we must send her to Washington to represent Texas’ 23rd District.”
Jones is an Iraq War veteran and former intelligence officer, as well as serving as the Senior Advisor for Trade Enforcement under former President Obama. Jones has a proven record of protecting and serving her country, a perspective that she will take with her to Congress. Jones champions common-sense gun violence prevention policies, such as expanding background checks, supported by bipartisan majorities of Americans and Texans. She has the understanding needed to affect change in Washington, and the independent determination to stand up to special interests and see that change through.
Jones explained:
"We have solutions for the gun violence epidemic in our country, but we need leaders with the moral courage to act. As a veteran that trained with an assault rifle and carried a service weapon while deployed to Iraq, I know the importance of gun safety. I'll always stand up to the gun lobby and special interests to do what's right for our children and communities in South and West Texas."
Given the urgent need for federal action to reform our nation’s gun laws and to reduce gun violence, Brady will continue to issue endorsements for the U.S. House of Representatives, U.S. Senate and state and local offices ahead of the 2020 elections.
