Brady Endorses Rep. Jamie Raskin (MD-08) for Re-Election

Washington, D.C., February 20, 2020 - Today Brady endorsed Rep. Jamie Raskin (MD-08) in his campaign for re-election to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2020.

Brady President Kris Brown shared:

“Rep. Raskin has consistently prioritized common-sense gun violence prevention policies and strategies during his time in Congress. From working to secure the first funding for federal gun violence research in over 20 years to sponsoring H.R. 3285, the Handgun Purchaser Licensing Act, he has demonstrated his understanding of and commitment to solving the gun violence crisis in the United States. Brady is proud to endorse Rep. Raskin re-election.”

Rep. Raskin has a consistent record championing, leading, and voting for common-sense gun violence prevention policies. In addition to sponsoring H.R.3285, he was part of the group of bipartisan co-sponsors for both H.R. 8 and H.R. 1112, which would strengthen and expand federal background checks, helping to ensure that individuals who are a proven risk to themselves or others do not possess weapons.

Rep. Raskin was integral to passing these bills through the House Judiciary Committee. The U.S. House of Representatives advanced these bills over 350 days ago, but have yet to be brought up for a vote by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell. Approximately 35,700 people have died from gun violence in the United States while these bills have sat unaddressed.

Rep. Raskin shared:

"I am thrilled to win the endorsement of Brady. America continues to drown in the blood of tens of thousands of our people who perish every year in the gun violence epidemic perpetrated by the political power of the NRA and the complacency of the GOP. We need to pass the entire gun safety agenda sitting on Mitch McConnell’s desk and that means we must organize.”

Given the urgent need for federal action to reform our nation’s gun laws and to reduce gun violence, Brady will continue to issue endorsements for the U.S. House of Representatives, U.S. Senate and state and local offices ahead of the 2020 elections.
