Brady Endorses Seven Members of Congress, Members of the Gun Violence Prevention Task Force, for Re-Election

Washington, D.C., January 31, 2020 - Today, Brady endorsed Reps. Jahana Hayes (CT-05), Marc Veasey (TX-33), Robin Kelly (IL-02), Grace Napolitano (CA-32), Ed Perlmutter (CO-7), Bobby Scott (VA-3) and Sheila Jackson Lee (TX-18), members of the leadership in the U.S. House of Representatives Gun Violence Prevention Task Force.

Brady President Kris Brown shared:

“Almost a year ago exactly, the U.S. House of Representatives passed two, bipartisan gun violence prevention bills, H.R.8 and H.R.1112, reinforcing how important addressing our gun violence epidemic is to the American people. Under the steady guidance of Chairman Mike Thompson, the leadership of the Gun Violence Prevention Task Force, Reps.Jahana Hayes (CT-05), Marc Veasey (TX-33), Robin Kelly (IL-02), Grace Napolitano (CA-32), Ed Perlmutter (CO-07), Bobby Scott (VA-03) and Sheila Jackson Lee (TX-18) are instrumental in that effort. Because of their tenacity and dedication, we have secured the first federal funding to study gun violence in over 20 years, as well as passing legislation to update the lifesaving Brady background check system for the first time in a generation. Their work to thoughtfully and holistically address this nationwide problem is vital to making our country safer. We need their voices. Brady is proud to endorse them.”

The leadership and work of the Gun Violence Prevention Task Force is necessary at a time when Americans are looking for federal action to end the gun violence epidemic in the United States. The Task Force has helped to pass multiple pieces of bipartisan gun violence legislation in the U.S. House of Representatives, showing the American people that their representatives are listening, even when the Senate refuses to act and the White House remains in the pocket of the gun lobby.

Brown concluded:

“These members have proven that gun violence prevention is a priority. They have demonstrated commitment to making our country safer. We need their leadership in Washington.”

Given the urgent need for federal action to reform our nation’s gun laws and to reduce gun violence, Brady will continue to issue endorsements for the U.S. House of Representatives, U.S. Senate and state and local offices ahead of the 2020 elections.
