Washington, D.C., December 9, 2019 - Today, Brady endorsed Rep. Val Demings (FL-10) in her campaign for re-election in 2020.
Brady President Kris Brown stated:
“Val Demings spent 27 years as a law enforcement officer. She knows not only what’s required to safely own and use a gun, but also the devastating consequences when guns are given to those who cannot safely operate them or who should never have a weapon in the first place. Rep. Demings has made gun safety legislation a priority. I’m proud to endorse Rep. Demings for re-election.”
Since arriving in Congress in 2017, Rep. Demings has consistently championed gun violence prevention policies. As a member of the House Judiciary Committee Rep. Demings helped to shepard through the bipartisan gun safety bills H.R.8 and H.R.1112, which passed the U.S. House of Representatives in February. These measures would expand and enhance background checks, but have yet to receive a vote in the Senate after over 275 days on Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s desk.
Unfortunately, the pain and effects of gun violence is tangible to the residents of Florida’s 10th congressional district, the home of Pulse nightclub and the scene of the second most deadly mass shooting in U.S. history.
Rep. Demings understands this responsibility and the need to keep her constituents safe. She has proven that she will not hesitate to act to do so.

Kris Brown concluded:
“As Rep. Demings has said, ‘We are not powerless.’ Rep. Demings has demonstrated this, supporting commonsense solutions to the gun violence epidemic to keep Florida voters safe. Now it’s our turn to support her. We’re not powerless. We can, and must, send Rep. Demings back to Washington to continue this important work.”
Given the urgent need for federal action to reform our nation’s gun laws and to reduce gun violence, Brady will continue to issue endorsements for the U.S. House of Representatives, U.S. Senate and state and local offices ahead of the 2020 elections.
