Brady Campaign Congratulates Reps. Nancy Pelosi, Steny Hoyer and Jim Clyburn on Nominations to House Leadership

Washington, D.C., November 18, 2020 – Brady congratulates Reps. Nancy Pelosi (CA-12), Steny Hoyer (MD-05) and Jim Clyburn (SC-06) on their nominations to serve as Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, Majority Leader, and Majority Whip, respectively. These proven gun violence prevention champions have demonstrated their determination to act on behalf of the interests of all Americans, including passing common-sense gun violence prevention policies.

Brady Campaign President Kris Brown shared:

“Each of these leaders, Speaker Pelosi, Majority Leader Hoyer, and Majority Whip Clyburn, has consistently advanced and uplifted common-sense gun violence prevention throughout their time in Congress, whether in leadership or not.

In the 116th Congress, Speaker Pelosi made such legislation a priority, passing both H.R. 8 and H.R. 1112 within the first 100 days. She has shown that she understands that bipartisan majorities of Americans want gun safety reform and that she is unafraid to work with all members of the U.S. House of Representatives, regardless of party, to deliver it. Both Majority Leader Hoyer and Majority Whip Clyburn have demonstrated this clarity. As the sponsor of the bipartisan H.R.1112, which would address the ‘Charleston Loophole’ that allowed the mass shooting in Mother Emanuel AME Church in 2015, Majority Whip Clyburn has proven his determination to keep his constituents and all Americans safe from gun violence. In the same way, Majority Leader Hoyer has championed these life-saving measures, helping to ensure that the U.S. House of Representatives carries out the will of the people and demonstrates the leadership that voters demand.

Brady applauds the House majority for nominating these gun violence prevention champions to lead the U.S. House of Representatives in the 117th Congress and looks forward to the House electing them to these positions in January.”
