WASHINGTON, D.C., May 6, 2026 — Today, the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence announced its endorsement of a slate of U.S. House and Senate challengers who represent the path to restore a gun violence prevention majority in Congress. These candidates — JoAnna Mendoza (AZ-6), Janelle Stelson (PA-10), Representative Elaine Luria (VA-1), Shannon Taylor (VA-5), Rebecca Cooke (WI-03), and Dr. Annie Andrews, MD (SC-Senate) — are critical majority makers in the fight to stop the administration’s gun agenda that is putting millions of Americans lives at risk.
As the current administration moves to expand access to firearms, including weakening federal oversight, rearming domestic abusers, and increasing the flow of guns into everyday spaces, the Brady Campaign is doubling down on candidates who will stand up for public safety, gun industry accountability, and evidence-based prevention policies and programs to save lives.
“Right now, we are witnessing a deadly experiment in what happens when those in power prioritize the gun lobby over the safety of the American people. The answer is not more guns. The answer is leaders who have the courage to act. Shannon Taylor, JoAnna Mendoza, Elaine Luria, Janelle Stelson, Rebecca Cooke, and Dr. Annie Andrews are exactly those leaders, and they are the difference between the current chaos of this administration and a safer America,” said Kris Brown, President of the Brady Campaign.
“The American people are tired of the false choice between freedom and safety. We can have both and we must free America from gun violence. In 2026, we have the opportunity to deliver what the American people overwhelmingly support: universal background checks, secure firearm storage, enforcement of existing laws to prevent illegal gun trafficking, and investments in community violence intervention programs. These six races are critical to electing a Congressional majority that is truly working to combat gun crime,” Brown continued.
The Brady Campaign will mobilize grassroots supporters and resources this cycle in support of candidates who will advance common-sense gun violence prevention policies, strengthen public safety, and stand up to the gun lobby’s deadly agenda.
