WASHINGTON D.C., June 17, 2025 — The Brady Campaign, the nation’s oldest gun violence prevention organization, responded to the Virginia primary election results this evening that included key wins for gun violence prevention champions in the General Assembly and in the races for Lieutenant Governor and Attorney General of Virginia.
Brady President Kris Brown, a native Virginian, said:
Our co-founder Sarah Brady always said, ‘if you can’t change the laws, change the lawmakers.’ It's time to dismantle the gun industry's stranglehold on the agenda of the Winsome Earle-Sears and Glenn Youngkin administration that has demonstrably jeopardized the safety of all Virginians.
This November 4th, Virginians have a critical opportunity to elect leaders who will prioritize public safety over gun lobby interests. We urge all Virginians to cast their votes for gun violence prevention champions in the legislature and Ghazala Hashmi for Lieutenant Governor and Jay Jones for Attorney General.
Together, these gun safety champions will provide decisive support to future Governor Abigail Spanberger, ensuring passage and implementation of a robust gun violence prevention agenda including banning untraceable ghost guns, mandating secure storage practices, and holding the reckless gun industry accountable.
Gun violence prevention champions like Abigail Spanberger and Ghazala Hashmi offer a clear alternative to the current chaos and destruction from Washington and at the same time, they will build something better — a Commonwealth free from gun violence.
###
Brady has one powerful mission — to unite all Americans against gun violence. We work across Congress, the courts, and our communities with over 90 grassroots chapters, bringing together young and old, red and blue, and every shade of color to find common ground in common sense. In the spirit of our namesakes Jim and Sarah Brady, we have fought for over 45 years to take action, not sides, and we will not stop until this epidemic ends. It’s in our hands.
