Having been exposed to gun violence at an early age, for Judge Carl Marlinga, the fight to end America’s gun violence epidemic is personal.
Judge Marlinga has served his community for 40 years and has been dedicated to fighting for fairness, justice, and protecting the rights of victims. Now, he wants to bring that dedication to the U.S. House of Representatives and protect Michigan communities from gun violence.
Judge Marlinga said:
I will continue to bring that FIGHT to Congress to ensure our justice system works equally for everyone. Being exposed to gun violence at an early age in life was the inspiration for my career choice.
The stakes for this election are high. In Michigan, firearms are the leading cause of death for children and teens and more than 1,100 people die every year in Michigan from gun violence. Judge Marlinga is challenging incumbent Rep. John James who is one of the gun lobby’s Freshman Five. Rep. James opposes universal background checks, supports more guns in schools, and is NRA-endorsed and financially supported by the gun lobby. In contrast, Judge Marlinga has spoken out in support of Ethan's Law, which would mandate safe firearm storage across the nation, and a federal assault weapons ban. This is why we need gun violence champions like Judge Marlinga to oust Rep. James — one of the gun lobby’s top allies in Congress.
The Brady Campaign is proud to endorse Judge Marlinga to represent Michigan’s 10th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives.
