Brady-endorsed candidates win more than 100 races as gun violence prevention majorities take control of both chambers, opening the door to renewed action on federal gun violence prevention legislation.
WASHINGTON, D.C., November 4, 2026 — The Brady Campaign, the nation’s oldest gun violence prevention organization, and Brady PAC, the political arm of the Brady Campaign, celebrate the sweeping victories of Brady-endorsed candidates who helped secure a gun violence prevention majority in Congress. This wave of progress flipped control of both the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate, a rare shift seen only twice before in the last 70 years. We witnessed red, blue, and purple states and districts across the country reject the Trump administration’s assault on public safety and the lawmakers who push deadly policies that prioritize gun industry profits over people’s lives.
This marks the first gun violence prevention majority in both chambers since the 117th Congress (2021-2023), which passed the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act — the first major federal gun safety legislation to become law in decades and an instrumental part of the historic decline in firearm homicide over the last four years. Now, Congress once again has an opportunity to take up life-saving gun violence prevention legislation backed by Brady-endorsed candidates at the helm.
Ahead of Election Day, the Brady Campaign, Brady PAC, and Brady’s youth arm, Team ENOUGH, partnered with Blue Future through investing in the Youth Safety Victory Fund to train hundreds of young advocates and mobilize thousands of voters, particularly young people. That effort paid off across the country. In key battleground House districts and Senate races, across Texas, South Carolina, Florida, Georgia, Michigan, and many others, candidates who prioritized gun violence prevention prevailed.
Brady Campaign President and Brady PAC President Kris Brown said:
These midterms send a clear message: Americans across party lines, gun owners and non-gun owners alike, are demanding leaders who prioritize our safety from gun violence and reject the Trump administration’s deadly ‘guns everywhere’ agenda that has put millions of lives at risk.
These results are a decisive repudiation of attacks on the American people led by the Trump administration, including systemic attacks on our public safety. This election marks a mandate to enact and implement robust public safety policies that will meaningfully address the crisis of American gun violence.
With Brady-endorsed candidates winning and gun violence prevention champions taking majority control of Congress, we are again prioritizing the protection of our lives and our children’s lives over gun industry profits.
A gun violence prevention majority in Congress has the power to end gun violence as the leading cause of death for children in America by passing laws that we know save lives: universal Brady Background Checks; a federal assault weapons ban; extreme risk protection order (ERPO) implementation funding; and stronger secure storage requirements.
Brady has big plans for this gun violence prevention majority in Congress. It is not enough to simply pass better laws, though that is important. We also are clear that Congress must use every tool at its disposal to counter the Trump administration’s dangerous pandering to the gun industry and reckless rollbacks of gun safety measures, and hold the administration accountable for policies that undermine public safety. That means launching investigations, exercising its subpoena power, demanding answers from federal agencies, blocking gun-extremist judges, and pursuing litigation when necessary. We will ensure that oversight focuses on instances where the gun industry has improperly influenced or undermined enforcement, rather than allowing the industry to dictate how the laws governing it are enforced.
Preventing gun violence requires addressing the conditions that fuel it. Congress must pair stronger gun laws with investments in proven community violence intervention strategies that this administration has attacked, despite clear evidence that these programs work and have helped to dramatically reduce homicide rates across this country. Voters did not elect a new majority simply to change who holds power. They expect that power to be used to create a safer America — and Brady will work tirelessly to ensure those results are delivered.
This wave of victories comes at a critical time in the gun violence prevention movement. The Trump administration has repeatedly attacked long-standing gun violence prevention measures, including the nearly 100-year-old National Firearms Act, which until recently, regulated dangerous firearms and accessories like silencers and short-barreled rifles. With a new slate of gun violence prevention champions in Congress, Brady is ready to fight these attacks at every turn and advance policies that will protect communities across the country.

Brady has one powerful mission — to unite all Americans against gun violence. We work across Congress, the courts, and our communities with over 90 grassroots chapters, bringing together young and old, red and blue, and every shade of color to find common ground in common sense. In the spirit of our namesakes Jim and Sarah Brady, we have fought for over 45 years to take action, not sides, and we will not stop until this epidemic ends. It’s in our hands.
