Washington D.C., August 7, 2020 - Today, the Brady Campaign is proud to endorse Mondaire Jones in his campaign to represent New York’s 17th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives.
Brady President Kris Brown shared:
“Mondaire Jones is a proven leader and activist who understands the need for federal action to prevent gun violence. Jones’ long history of working for his community even from a young age -- championing school funding, registering voters in his hometown, and establishing a non-profit to empower students with professional skills -- demonstrates his enduring commitment to the important, community-based lens that we should be approaching our nation’s most pressing issues through. Jones is committed to protecting our democracy, pledging to co-sponsor H.R. 1, the For the People Act, which expands Americans' access to the ballot box and eliminates ‘dark money’ in elections from special interest groups like the NRA. Jones has similarly called on Americans' to recognize all forms of gun violence, including police violence. We need his comprehensive and thoughtful leadership in Congress. Brady is proud to endorse Mondaire Jones for the United State House of Representatives.”
The Team ENOUGH Executive Council shared:
“Throughout his career, Mondaire Jones has demonstrated a commitment to and understanding of the most pressing issues that our country and our generation face. From his commitment to restoring our democracy, to reforming our policing and criminal justice systems, to his consistent support of common-sense gun violence prevention policies, Jones has laid out a clear path to address gun violence in all of its forms. We need his leadership and vision in Congress. Team ENOUGH is proud to join Brady in endorsing Mondaire Jones in his campaign to represent New York’s 17th District in the United States House of Representatives.”
Brady Westchester shared:
“Brady Westchester knows that Mondaire Jones will be an effective champion for the residents of New York’s 17th Congressional District and an effective partner to Brady in Congress, because we know Mondaire Jones. As his future constituents, we've seen Mondaire Jones at work on behalf of our community. We know that he understands that issues such as gun suicide, police violence and the need for research into gun violence’s causes, are not only national issues, but affect the people of NY-17, too. His long connection to and work with Brady Westchester demonstrates his clear commitment to his community and is why we are excited and proud to have him represent us in Congress.”
Mondaire Jones said,
“Gun violence is an epidemic in this country –– one that disproportionately kills our kids and families in black communities. It’s time we stop taking half-measures, call gun violence out for what it is, and step up. The Brady Campaign is dedicated to preventing gun violence and when I’m in Congress, I will be standing arm in arm with this organization. It’s time our leaders tackle this issue head on and that’s exactly what I will do. I’m honored to have earned their endorsement.”
Mondaire Jones understands that gun violence is a complex issue that requires multifaceted solutions. He will bring necessary perspective to Washington, and Brady looks forward to working with him in the 117th Congress.
Brady has one powerful mission — to unite all Americans against gun violence. We work across Congress, the courts, and our communities with over 90 grassroots chapters, bringing together young and old, red and blue, and every shade of color to find common ground in common sense. In the spirit of our namesakes Jim and Sarah Brady, we have fought for over 45 years to take action, not sides, and we will not stop until this epidemic ends. It’s in our hands.
