Brady Endorses Rep. James Langevin for Re-Election

Washington, D.C., February 3, 2020 - Today, Brady endorsed Rep. James Langevin (RI-02) in his campaign for re-election to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2020. Brady is proud to endorse Rep. Langevin during “Gun Violence Survivors Week,” the week dedicated to recognizing the survivors of gun violence and the scope of the gun violence epidemic in the United States.

Brady President Kris Brown shared:

“Representative Jim Langevin has championed common-sense gun safety and gun violence prevention policies throughout his career in public service. From the Rhode Island state house to the United States Congress, Rep. Langevin has worked to ensure that our government prioritizes making all families and communities safer. He has championed policies, including co-sponsoring legislation such as the Gun Show Loophole Closing Act, the Stop Online Ammunition Sales Act, the Gun Trafficking Prevention Act, and the Enforce Existing Gun Laws Act. In the 116th Congress, Rep. Langevin has co-sponsored and championed H.R.8 and H.R.1112, two bills which would expand and strengthen background checks. As a survivor of an accidental shooting, Rep. Langevin knows the damage that guns can cause. He understands why common-sense solutions will make us all safer. Brady is proud to endorse him for re-election.”

Rep. Langevin has served Rhode Island’s Second District since 2001. During his tenure, Rep. Langevin has consistently co-sponsored and led efforts to prevent gun violence, including the first federal funding to research gun violence in over 20 years. Rep. Langevin personally understands the need to improve gun safety and prevent gun violence. At 16, Rep. Langevin was injured when a gun accidentally discharged and he was struck by a bullet, leaving him paralyzed.

Rep. Langevin shared:

“As someone whose life has been forever changed by a gunshot, I am honored to receive the endorsement of Brady, a groundbreaking organization committed to making communities safer. Brady promotes common-sense gun safety legislation and addresses gun violence issues in a bipartisan fashion. I am honored to have their support and to be a part of the movement to end the gun violence epidemic that is devastating American lives.”

Given the urgent need for federal action to reform our nation’s gun laws and to reduce gun violence, Brady will continue to issue endorsements for the U.S. House of Representatives, U.S. Senate and state and local offices ahead of the 2020 elections.
