Trump Campaign Lawsuits to Stop Michigan, Pennsylvania Vote Counting are Disenfranchisement

Washington, D.C., November 4, 2020 - Following two lawsuits filed by the Trump Campaign in Michigan and Pennsylvania seeking to halt the on-going election results tabulation occurring throughout the state, the Brady Campaign reiterates the need to count every vote and allow the election process to continue in accordance with law.

The Trump Campaign’s tactics are aimed at undermining the integrity of the results. The remaining votes in Michigan and Pennsylvania were lawfully cast, received, and processed according to each state’s election laws. They are now being processed in an orderly and timely manner. Stopping this process is an active effort to undermine the faith that the people of Michigan and Pennsylvania have in their Democracy.

Brady Campaign President Kris Brown shared:

“President Trump continues to attack our election laws and protocols, sowing disinformation and discord, and now seeking to disenfranchise Americans who lawfully voted. These lawsuits are just his latest attempt to silence the voices of Americans who exercised their right to vote during this pandemic and to stop these states from carrying out their constitutional obligation to count the votes cast by their residents.

Both Pennsylvania and Michigan continue to report vote totals in an orderly and legal process. These lawsuits are a blatant attempt to call legitimately cast and processed votes into question. The Brady Campaign stands with election officials in both Michigan and Pennsylvania as they seek to count every vote cast. We must count all the votes and let the people make their voices heard.

Mr. President, you said last night that there was an effort to ‘disenfranchise’ Americans. With your lawsuit, you are the one seeking to disenfranchise and silence Americans’ voices. You are the one stopping their votes. We will not allow it to stand.”
